Downtown Cumberland makes it easy to find the perfect gift and support local businesses while shopping for friends and family (or even yourself!) at the annual Moonlight Madness event on Thursday, December 8 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Every year, for one special evening during the holiday season, downtown stores stay open late and offer great savings on distinctive holiday gifts. Sponsored by the Downtown Development Commission, Moonlight Madness is an event that brings back the feeling of a traditional night of shopping in Downtown Cumberland. Previously known as Midnight Madness, the event, now in its’ seventh year, has become a downtown tradition.

“It is a magical time to be in the heart of our city, a time to enjoy the lights and decorations, be among friends and family, and support our locally-owned businesses,” said Steven Leyh, DDC Promotions Director. “Studies have shown that for every $100 you spend with locally-owned businesses, $68 will stay in the community. When you choose to spend money in a local business, you are not only supporting a local family, but an entire community.”

In addition, U.S. Cellular will be at The Book Center taking free photos of children with Santa, Mrs. Claus and Rudolph from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Moonlight Madness includes stores and businesses located on Baltimore, Centre, Liberty, Mechanic, Pershing, Harrison Streets as well as Queen City Drive and Canal Place.
